Rear Axle Wheel Bearings (Type 6)

If a rear axle bearing is bad, you will have excessive play in the rear wheel. We find that German or SKF bearings last the longest. The biggest cause of bearing failure is lack of oil or grease. Those of you with swing axle Bugs or pre 68 Buses with the reduction boxes that are lowering them will find this to be a common problem. The oil travels down the axle tube and can't get back to the bearings, due to the steep angle of the tube.
